Camilla de Castro Rewards Those Who Aren’t Afraid to Laugh at Sex
Rogue Adventures 10, 2002, 139 minutes, Rated X
By Ryan Hernández
Filmed entirely in Sao Paolo Brazil, Joey Silvera’s, Rogue Adventures 10 is a series of sexual vignettes starring men, women, and preoperative female to male transsexuals. It includes all that can be expected of films of the genre, including vaginal, oral, anal and strap-ons, without any of the cum-dodging so common among American features.
What distinguishes this movie from so many like it is the performance by Camilla de Castro. Comparisons to Aishwarya Rai or Grace Kelly would be a disservice; were you to combine them both and add an eight ball, you might have something tantamount. Her remarkable beauty and unabashedly erotic performance is complimented by a casual interview in which she speaks of her personal history and matters of sex. Switching between Portuguese and English, there is an absolutely enchanting quality which calms the viewer’s inhibitions, as if to say, “Relax, it’s just sex”. By her words and actions, we are reminded that consensual touching and exchanges of intimacy among adults are supposed to be fun. And why wouldn’t it be? If you don’t see the humor in two people jumping up and down upon one another while trying to consume the other’s face, you’re taking yourself way too seriously.
The film’s other scenes play like comedy, the actors struggling to remain in character amidst the most unlikely of sexual positions, sometimes breaking down with laughter. In a curious mirror-image sort of way, the film’s aesthetic is similar to that of professional wrestling, complete with sweat, exotic anatomical positions, spandex and hormones.
I was so enthusiastic about my discovery of Camilla de Castro that I wanted to learn more. Born in 1979 as Alessandro Kothenborger in Sao Paolo, Camilla became something of a national celebrity transcending pornography, gender, sex and race and was well on her way to mainstream success on the television program Superpop. A month after announcing her engagement to her boyfriend she was found dead, having apparently fallen from an eighth story balcony. Rumors circulated saying drugs were the cause, others saying that she was thrown. Whatever the cause of her demise, her aphrodisian irresistablity and hermetic wit are immortalized on film. She was 26 years old.

One of the most beautiful people I’ve ever seen. I would have fallen in love with her. A total diva. I am sad to have only discovered recently that she is no longer with us. Camilla, you are beautiful forever. -Alejandro
