Welcome to the One Sorry Blog Sunday Scrabble Sweepstakes! Enter the Sunday Scrabble Sweepstakes every week and win. Playing is as easy as 1-2-3.

Week 1 board Week 1 rack

1. Check out the above snapshots of a board and rack from an actual Scrabble game, different each week.
2. Make the highest scoring word that you can.
3. Leave a Comment describing your move. (Be sure not to read other Comments until you’re ready to leave your own.)

Your score is the total number of points your word would earn in a regulation Scrabble game, plus a bonus of 10 style points if you play a word that One Sorry Blog has never heard of, or 5 for playing a word that goes through two letters. An example of a word earning the 10 style-point bonus is OXTER, a word unknown to One Sorry Blog before Mary Nisbet of the Goleta foothills played it in the the precursor to the One Sorry Blog Sunday Scrabble Sweepstakes, the Scrabble Happy Hour at Elsie’s.

The contestant with the highest scoring word each week will be that week’s One Sorry Blog Sunday Scrabble Sweepstakes winner. The contestant with the highest total score each month will be that month’s One Sorry Blog Sunday Scrabble Sweepstakes winner.

Winners will receive mad props a free subscription to One Sorry Blog by RSS feed or email. Good luck!

I’m gonna go with the blank letter, the u, and the n attached to the t, for (no not that word!) bunt.

As in, I once got a hit on a bunt because Mr. Peter Parkah did not cover first base, allowing Montgomery J.V. to beat Cardinal Newman.

THIS IS PAUL’S ENTRY TO THIS WEEK’S SUNDAY SCRABBLE SWEEPSTAKES. STOP READING IF YOU DON’T WANT TO SEE WHAT HIS ENTRY IS YET!

    N1 UNITIE? 76

This is the word UNITIES, where the blank is an S. The word starts in column N, row 1, and goes down, forming the additional horizontal words tI, rE and aS, where t, r and a are pre-existing tiles.

UNITIES is worth 76 points. No 10-point style bonus. Total 76.

Isn’t there some way to enable comment moderation so nobody can cheat off of each other? Or, in this case, be instantly disheartened that my awesome word is inferior to Paul’s?

Beginning 10 columns across, 2 down (on the triple letter score), and spelling downward: INTUITIVE

The blank is a V, and the second T and I are already on the board.

    Total: 64 points.

Sounds great, I’ll be back to play sometime for sure!
    Glad you found me!

JosyC, that was a HAWT move. Not only that, but we’ve changed the rules on account of it, awarding you 5 count ‘em 5 style points for going through two letters. Your new total is 69 points. We’re working on the comments thing, but for now the couple disclaimers is all we’ve come up with.

::laughs:: It hardly seems fair to change the rules after I’ve played my hand, does it?

  • clarita // 23 May 2007 at 9:32 pm

I vote for style points!! that was a hot move. red, wicked, scrabbliciously hot!!

  • Ace // 24 May 2007 at 3:05 pm

I spell NUTS just because I can. Using the T in Trash and placing the N on the Double Word Score. The blank becomes an S.

The N is on a double word score, so I salvage a whopping 6.

But then I get to turn to my opponent and say, “suck on deez NUTS.” And it is all worth it.

    STYLE POINTS FOR ACE!!!

    JAJAJA!!

  • clarita // 25 May 2007 at 10:25 am

After much ado and mildly serious brain injury - I offer the following:

INUTILE - Where the blank is an L

(I seriously think I have to give credit to my too-many Spanish classes here)

Building from the H in trash down making HI and INUTILE

INUTILE is 16 plus 50 for using all tiles plus 5 for HI

    Total points = 71

    How bout it?

  • JosyC // 26 May 2007 at 12:59 pm

Ooh. Plus style points, if I were rating this. I had to look that up.

  • onesorryblog // 26 May 2007 at 1:55 pm

I concur, Josy. One Sorry Blog knows the Spanish word inútil, but was not hip to its English cousin. 10 style points for Clarita. This gives her 81 total, and the lead.

Get your entries in today, since we’ll post the results tonight (8pm Argentina time). Remember, if you don’t win this week, you’re still in the running for monthly winner. Monthly winners receive even madder props and a free subscription to One Sorry Blog by RSS feed or email.

    trashiest = 22

Seems kind of an anti-climatic finish to my reverse playing of your Scrabble blogs. It was a fun run though.

Give me a heads up if you post more of these.

    Peace,
    Andrew
